There is absolutely no way to make this seat fit in my Mazda 6 (full size sedan with decent leg room) in the rear facing orientation.
The adjustable base only provides about a 20 degree angle on an typical center seat and less than that on side seats. In the center seat with the seat reclined fully in the base, I'd need to add close to 5" of rolled up towels under the front of the car seat to get the allowable angle. On a perfectly flat exterior you can get the 45 degree angle but no cars are built like that.
It's much too tall and interferes with the driver and/or passenger seats in the 45 degree orientation. The center seat is the only selection (without interesting and tilting the passenger seat fully forward). We have a dog so the center seat makes it all but impossible to take the baby, wife, and dog anywhere. perhaps it would work better in an Suv or minivan with less reclined front seats.
The hand-operated is also very specific about Not using the top tether strap in the rear facing position. This creates a hazardous situation if rear ended because the seat will rotate up and slam the baby in the back of car's seats.
The Latch ideas is a unblemished pain to use, literally: I've scraped myself 3 times already trying to get it installed properly because you can never get it tight enough.
On the plus side it seems like a comfy chair and the 5 point buckle is very solid and is very easy to connect and release (much easier than the baby trend baby carrier/car seat we're currently using).
I'll be returning it Asap and I guess I'll just have to give in to the fact that I'll need to buy 3 car seats (infant carrier/car seat, baby/toddler convertible seat, and a child booster).
